"I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night" (Though I am fearful of a lot of other things honestly)

Hey, I'm Rachel | 28 | she/her

There’s two types of users on recreational drug use subreddits:

“I took a moderate dose 6 years ago, is it safe to take another dose again today?”

VS

“I have taken 10x the recommended dose after 3 months of daily use, I feel kind of bad did I fuck up?”

I forgot the person who decided to take a drug cocktail that even a 19th century pharmacist would struggle to see the reasoning behind but they explain it the way a baker may share a recipe they’re trying to perfect.

Important reminder

This reminds me of the fact that “Ancient Egypt” goes back so many thousands of years, that the most recent “Ancient Egyptians” were already studying (even more) Ancient Egypt.

Not even the most recent ones. It was an Egyptian prince from the 13th century BCE studying and restoring artifacts from the 26th century BCE.

For context, the last Pharaoh, Cleopatra VII, lived in the 1st century BCE. Prince Khaemweset, known as “the first egyptologist”, was as ancient to her as the pyramids and tombs he was studying were ancient to him.

as an archivist I am begging you

  • put dates on everything
  • don’t believe digital stuff is preserved forever - if it’s really important (documents, photos, etc) print it out
  • name your files accurately I know it sucks but please
  • don’t destroy the original just bc you scanned it
  • rubber cement is the devil’s adhesive use photo corners and quit gluing shit
  • you will NOT remember write it down
  • if you staple things to the inside of a folder I will find you
  • your public library probably has equipment to digitize old media for free or can at least get you connected with somewhere that does!

Did you guys hear some of Napoleon’s jewelry was stolen from the Louvre this morning by guys dressed as construction workers? They rode a lift basket up to the window and left on the freight elevator WHILE the museum was already open…… in and out in 4 minutes…… chic art heists are so back

podcastwizard:

some royal jewels were stolen from the louvre which is unfortunate for historical reasons but you gotta appreciate a classic crime. so many crimes are online these days it’s nice to see heist culture is still alive
